A Tale of Two Morris Minors

Just before the end of 2003, we bought a 1950 Morris Minor 2-door sedan and named it "Moe" for short (it certainly is short!).

A month later, we bought a 1957 Morris Minor 2-door sedan and named it "Moe's Bro" (to the untrained eye, they look identical).

"MOE"
1950 Morris Minor

"MOE's BRO"
1957 Morris Minor

Moe came from the factory with:

<> Old style split flat windshield* and small rear window
<> Early rear fenders (larger wheel opening)
<> 27 hp, 918cc, "flathead" four cylinder engine
<> 4-speed manual transmission
<> Wheelbase: 86"; front track: 50.6"; rear track: 50.3"

Moe's Bro had:

<> One-piece curved windshield and large rear window
<> Fiberglass flares on late fenders
<> Competition rollbar
<> No engine or transmission
<> Good floors and modified front crossmember (it had an Alfa Romeo drivetrain at one point)

The PLAN for Moe:

<> Insert under the Minor's body a Fiberfab/CMC Gazelle (kit car) chassis* fitted with the 2.8-liter V6 engine* and automatic transmission, independent front suspension (with disc brakes and rack and pinion steering), and leaf spring rear suspension (with live rear axle and drum brakes) from a 1976 Ford Mustang II. The Mustang II's front track (55.6") and rear track (55.8") will require either substantial fender massaging or splitting the entire body - click here to see how Beardsmore Bros. have done it in the UK.
PaintShop'd roadster with Tourer top<> Remove the roof, all side windows, and the back seat to make Moe a true roadster.
<> Put in a new floor and interior (maybe a bench seat for the front).
<> Construct a Carson top by fabricating a non-folding frame, and then attaching a re-sewn, early model Morris Minor Tourer soft top for a lower than stock roofline
<> Install a set of polished alloy wheels* from a front wheel drive car (36mm positive offset on a 7" wide rim) to narrow Moe's front and rear track width as much as possible (short of having the steering rack and rear axle narrowed).
<> Apply PPG's soft peach and vanilla shake paint per the Missus' desire (it's her car, so she picks the colors!).Another view in PaintShop

Explanation:  We moved to a much smaller property last summer, and really had no room at the new place to park it (or the trailer it was on).
