QUALIFICATIONS

If there is one thread that connects all the elements of my life together, it's that I enjoy helping people to accomplish their goals.

I began my clinical internship in marriage and family therapy at the University of Southern California in 1973, became licensed in California in 1976, and I provided those services in private practice through 1987.  During that period I also taught in masters level therapist training programs at several colleges and universities, wrote a few published journal articles, received the first Marriage and Family Therapist license issued by the State of Washington, and was chosen "Citizen of the Year" by the City of Kent (WA) for community service.

After a stint as a hospital unit manager and later as a corporate trainer, I was employed for eleven years as an organizational consultant for The Boeing Company, where  I coached managers and executives on effective leadership, quality improvement, and employee relations, and led workgroup discussions about working together, conflict resolution, and workplace diversity.

My formal education includes a Ph.D. in counseling psychology, and a B.A. in (adult) education, but I've learned the really important life lessons from my family and my hobbies.  From raising a son to maturity, from marriages that failed and one that is a success, from extended family and "surrogate family" relationships, I've learned the keys to becoming a better person and a better partner.  From my car hobby projects and musical interests, I've learned the value of taking big things step by step.
